Simon Jones
Simon completed a bachelor's degree in Economics and Geography at the University of Hull. After working for Reed Elsevier plc, Simon studied for his MBA at Imperial College London, specialising in corporate finance and financial markets and assets. Simon then worked for Merrill Lynch in its equity research department. In 2005, Simon, who is a CFA Chareterholder, joined American Appraisal. He has since played a key role in the expansion of the Company’s UK business valuation and intangible asset valuation practices. Simon has particular expertise in restructuring-related business valuations, as well as intangible asset identification and valuation for financial reporting or tax-related purposes. He is particularly interested in the consumer, retail, travel, leisure and media sectors and has had broad client exposure in these and other industries. Examples of client experience include:
Undertaking purchase price allocations for numerous mid-cap and small-cap companies (FTSE main market and AIM) across multiple sectors and geographies. Advising the European branch of a S&P 500 company on the value of some of its principal grocery brands for tax planning purposes. Undertaking a liquidation-in-place analysis in the context of a Best Interest Test required by the US Bankruptcy Court as part of the client’s emergence from Chapter XI bankruptcy protection. Advising the European

Delivering a transfer pricing study to assess the reasonableness of intercompany royalty rates levied within a multinational enterprise for use of intellectual property. Completing share valuations for tax purposes where either the sale proceeds or the base cost had to be negotiated and agreed with the Shares Valuation Division of HM Revenue & Customs.
