Tony Prior

Tony Prior is Director of Asset and Risk Appraisal at American Appraisal. Tony has 42 years experience in the Insurance, Asset Appraisal, Risk Management and Construction sectors and is regarded as one of the world’s leading specialists in his field.  

Tony has been involved in Appraisal work for a wide variety of purposes including insurance, asset management, M & A, disposals to sequestration, privatisation and corporate governance. 

Tony’s team at American Appraisal is responsible for the delivery of Asset & Risk Appraisal Services, including Business Risks, Asset Management, Planned Maintenance and Procurement. Tony’s principal focus is on serving members of the London insurance market and their global partners, specifically in the Middle East and Asia where he has a wealth of experience having worked in both regions for a number of years. 

Tony clients tend to be major global organisations in the oil, gas, petrochemical, power, water, metals, paper, food, logistics and process plant industries. More recently he has become involved in providing Business Risk Appraisals to large multinationals and utilities, plus tailoring Asset Appraisal Audits to allow organisations to comply with Sarbanes Oxley and the 2004 International Accounting Standards – (IAS 16).

Tony started his career in 1966 as an Underwriter for Sun Alliance Group. He was subsequently involved in sales, marketing, Insurance Broker and Client liaison for global industrial clients of Sun Alliance.  In 1988, Tony decided to focus solely on Asset & Risk Appraisal and joined Edward Rushton, before moving on to Crawford Loss Adjusters in 1996, Currie & Brown in 2000, EC Harris LLP in 2006 and American Appraisal January 2008.

As part of Tony's global responsibilities in American Appraisal’s Asset and Risk Appraisal practice, he is responsible for the preparation of presentations, proposals, marketing material and participation at conferences, whether it be operating an exhibition stand, organising speakers, or speaking himself.  Tony also regularly provides articles to professional publications in the Insurance, Risk and Construction spheres. 

Tony is a Member of the Institute of Risk Management, the Institute of Petroleum and the Chartered Insurance Institute.
